The Civil Engineering Department at UET Lahore hosted a seminar entitled “Earthquake Engineering: Simplifying Complex Questions” on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. The distinguished speaker for this event was Engr. Rizwan Mirza, an accomplished alumnus of UET Lahore’s Civil Engineering Department and the current CEO of Rizwan Mirza Consulting Engineers in Lahore.
The seminar commenced with a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Khalid Farooq, Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department, who also extended a bouquet to honor the guest. Engr. Rizwan Mirza then delivered an in-depth presentation on various facets of earthquakes, covering topics such as historical major earthquakes, the movement of tectonic plates, earthquake magnitudes, seismic risk management, seismic waves, and response spectra. The presentation was followed by an engaging question-and-answer session.
To conclude the event, Prof. Dr. Khalid Farooq, Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department, offered closing remarks and presented a token of appreciation to Engr. Rizwan Mirza. The seminar attracted a substantial turnout, with a significant presence of both faculty members and students.
