A Journey of Excellence: From UET Lahore to Global Leadership

It is with immense pride that UET Lahore celebrates the outstanding professional journey of its distinguished alumnus, Dr. Mubashir Aziz, who has been appointed as Chairman of the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia, currently ranked #67 in the QS World University Rankings 2026.

Dr. Aziz’s academic foundation was laid at UET Lahore, where he earned his BSc in Civil Engineering, graduating among the top ten students of his Session-1999. He pursued his MSc in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) at the same institution, where his research on advanced soil testing reflected early signs of his passion for innovation and academic rigor. His scholarly journey continued at The University of Tokyo, Japan, where he completed his PhD in Civil Engineering in year 2010, exploring the fundamental behavior of deterioration of soil grains—an endeavor that blended experimental finesse with academic depth.

Professionally, Dr. Aziz has held key academic and technical roles across Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, including faculty and leadership positions at UET Lahore, Al Imam University Riyadh, FAST-NUCES Lahore and KFUPM Dhahran, as well as serving as a Geotechnical Expert for major infrastructure projects like the Riyadh Metro. He has also been serving as a Program Evaluator for the accreditation of engineering programs by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

Dr. Mubashir Aziz’s rise to the Chairmanship of one of the most prestigious engineering departments in the region is not just a personal milestone—it is a moment of pride for The Department of Civil Engineering, UET Lahore and for Pakistan. His success reflects the strength of Pakistani engineering education on the global stage and serves as an inspiration for future generations of engineers.
