New Dean Announcement: Dr. Khalid Farooq Takes the Helm of Faculty of Civil Engineering at UET Lahore

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Prof. Dr. Khalid Farooq as the new Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, appointed by the Governor/Chancellor. Prof. Dr. Khalid’s journey in the field of civil engineering began right here at UET, where he graduated (with honours) and later pursued his master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering. His academic pursuits led him to Japan, where he obtained his PhD from the University of Tokyo in 2002. He has authored approximately 100 research publications in esteemed Civil Engineering Journals and conferences, demonstrating his prolific contributions to the field. Additionally, he has mentored over 60 postgraduate students, guiding them through their academic journeys, including the successful supervision of 4 PhD candidates.

With a rich history of service to UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Khalid has been a cornerstone of the Civil Engineering Department since 1992. As Chairman of CED since 2019, he spearheaded numerous initiatives that propelled the department to new heights. Under his leadership, the BSc Civil Engineering Program received a prestigious 4-year accreditation for the first time in its history.

Prof. Dr. Khalid’s tenure witnessed remarkable achievements, including a significant increase in faculty promotions and the acquisition of a record-breaking 12 HEC approved Competitive Research Grants. Notably, the department underwent a remarkable transformation, with renovated classrooms, laboratories, and the establishment of a state-of-the-art seminar hall and Chairman’s Office, generously supported by departmental alumni.

Prof. Dr. Khalid Farooq’s commitment to student welfare was evident through his efforts in organizing numerous international conferences and seminars, fostering an environment of academic exchange and learning. Additionally, under his leadership, a multitude of scholarship opportunities were created, providing much-needed support to deserving students, ensuring accessibility to quality education. Through these initiatives, Prof. Dr. Khalid has demonstrated his dedication to nurturing the next generation of civil engineering professionals.
