The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, held an inspiring and informative orientation and welcome ceremony for the incoming Batch of 2024. The event, which spanned across two days, aimed to introduce the new students to the department, its faculty, and the vibrant student life at UET Lahore.
Phase I: Orientation Sessions – Monday, 2nd September 2024
The first phase of the event commenced on Monday, 2nd September 2024, at 8:00 AM. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Noor M. Khan, Chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering, and Dr. Ali Ahmed, Associate Professor, the ICE Chapter UET Lahore, a proactive student body, conducted the sessions.
Students were welcomed and briefed on the various facets of civil engineering, including the unique strengths and specialties of UET Lahore’s Civil Engineering Department. The sessions also introduced students to the Learning Management System (LMS), followed by department and campus tours to familiarize them with the state-of-the-art facilities and resources available. These sessions were designed to provide an overview of the academic and co-curricular opportunities within the department, setting the foundation for the freshers’ journey ahead.
Phase II: Welcome and Orientation Ceremony – Wednesday, 4th September 2024
The second phase of the event took place on Wednesday, 4th September 2024. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Khalid Farooq, Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Noor M. Khan, Chairman Department of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Asad Ullah Qazi, HOD Structural Division, Prof. Dr. Hassan Mujtaba, HOD Geo-Technical Engineering Division, and several other esteemed faculty members.
Prof. Dr. Noor M. Khan addressed the students with an engaging speech, outlining the achievements of the Department of Civil Engineering and emphasizing the importance of balancing academic life with personal well-being. He highlighted the contributions of civil engineers to society and provided valuable insights into the specialized fields of Hydraulics and Irrigation Engineering.
Prof. Dr. Asad Ullah Qazi, Head of the Structural Engineering Division, and Prof. Dr. Hassan Mujtaba, Head of the Geo-Technical Engineering Division, delivered enlightening talks, offering the freshers a deeper understanding of their respective fields and encouraging them to explore the various avenues civil engineering has to offer.
Dean Prof. Dr. Khalid Farooq warmly welcomed the new batch, emphasizing the significance of academic excellence and professional ethics. He encouraged students to make the most of their four years at UET, aiming for high grades and active participation in both academic and extracurricular activities.
The ceremony concluded with group photos, fostering a sense of community among the students, followed by refreshments.
